Fiona Kates
Club member
After her son was sent on summer camp due to the generosity of the local community through Diamond Valley Lions Club, Fiona decided that she would join the Lions Club. As President she wants to make it possible for others to benefit - either by being part of an inclusive team that believes in helping others, or by receiving assistance when they find themselves going through a difficult time. Being a Lion has given Fiona opportunity to learn new skills, including becoming a skin cancer screener (dermoscopist) for the Lion’s mobile unit. When she is not busy with work or Lions you can find Fiona hanging out with her two dogs Ember and Toby.
Anita Hillier
Club member
Anita is a powerhouse of organisation here at DV Lions! Anita takes on the organisation of the Diamond Creek Twilight Market, which has been so successful it’s now a staple in the Diamond Valley community’s Event Calendar. Her next challenge is the 50th anniversary project.
Richard is a long standing member of the DV Lions team, and the person looking after our finances. He excels at showcasing the amazing club achievements, and is always happy to have a friendly chat over coffee. Richard is also our Licola village champion. He has project managed the extensive renovations to our sponsored house and organised numerous working bees. There is a saying ‘What happens at Licola stays at Licola’ - what do they get up to? Why not join us and find out!
Richard Keeling
Treasurer
Helen Chenhall
Welfare Officer
Helen puts her hand up to help out at many activities and events as possible. You will often see her at a sausage sizzle, cake sale or market stall. Helen has also looked after our Aged Care knitting group for many years, popping round to collect knitted items offering a foot massage while she is there!
Marg Innes
Club Member
Marg is involved with the club support of Backpacks 4 VIC Kids. She has engaged a local sewing group to help her make baby care bags and Santa sacks and recently delivered 57 sacks and many other items to the charity. Do you sew, knit or crochet? Would you like to help Marg with this project? Contact us to find out how.
Trevor Kennett
President
Trevor is a problem solver and lateral thinker. He has a genuine desire to encourage and mentor others to be their best version and has a passion to help those in need. When not organising club activities, he is our Head 'Snag' Chef.
Barry Backman
Lion Tamer
As Lion Tamer Barry ensures our meetings run smoothly and welcomes guests and new members. He is a long standing club member who has an extensive network of contacts and friends and a huge knowledge of how to get things done. He has a passion to help those in need and is an asset to the club. If we need the trailer stocked for a BBQ, a direct line to Father Christmas for the Twilight market or a representative at an official function Barry is the man for the job.
Chris Morrison
Child Protection Officer
On retirement Chris decided he wanted to keep active so joined DV Lions. A handy guy to have a round, Chris can turn his skills to many things. He can regularly be found behind a BBQ at Bunnings or wielding a paint brush or screw driver at Licola. His skills and opinions are greatly appreciated as is his desire to help others in the community.
Daryl Schrader
Service Chairman
As the club Service Chairman, Daryl facilitates the development and implementation of club goals by assessing community needs and planning and encouraging service activities. A long serving member of DV Lions, Daryl is a strong advocate for local groups including Wattle Glen Primary School and is a regular at Licola working bees, fundraising BBQs and environmental projects such as ‘Clean up Australia Day’.
Vince Careri
Director
Vince is one of our newest members but is already making his mark. Vince can regularly be found at a fundraising BBQ encouraging shoppers to treat themselves. With lots of upcoming projects Vince will be there with enthusiasm and energy.
David O’Brien
Club member
As a long standing club member, David served as club Treasurer for over 30 years. You will now find David quietly ‘getting on with things’. At BBQs he is ‘Chief Onion Cutter’ working through kilos of onions without a tear in his eyes! His hard work, friendly nature and desire to help others make him an asset to the club and great to have around.
David Way
Club Member
David is a long standing and valuable member of the club with a desire to help others. As a past president of the club we really value his knowledge of all things Lions and his desire to help in the community. A 'sparky' by trade, he tests and tags our Twilight Market lights and cables each year. You will also see and hear him on the decks at the market keeping us entertained. A regular at the Licola working bees he is also apparently pretty handy with a paintbrush.
Vicky Magills
Membership Chairman
Vicky comes with the cutest secret weapons because not only does she volunteer as a Lion but she also volunteers as a Seeing Eye puppy raiser. Vicky and her latest puppy can be found at events and meetings spreading love and cuteness. Vicky is a 'mover and shaker' who gets things done; whether it is helping to sell Christmas cakes, encouraging market goers to try their luck on the Tombola at the Twilight market, or serving at a BBQ.
Jennifer Drew
Secretary
Jennifer has passion - passion to help others and the planet through her recycling initiatives, passion to promote cooperation with other Lions clubs and the wider community to maximise achievements and passion to get things done while having fun. She is the driving force behind our support of Backpacks for VIC Kids encouraging and energising the club to get on board and do good things. She recently organised a hugely successful fundraising lunch which raised over $5,000 for the charity which we hope will become an annual event.
