Return to Licola

Diamond Valley Lions has been busy with the advent of spring, we had a long awaited return to Licola and the Diamond Creek Town Fair, this has been in addition to the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival at Hurstbridge and assisting with the Nillumbik Citizenship Ceremony.

Helen, Barry, Daryl and Richard travelled to Licola, stopping off at Heyfield to have lunch with past Lion Doug Speedie, the drive up the valley to Licola was magnificent, the place was green, the Macalister River was full! The group enjoyed two nights at Licola, we painted the last of four bedrooms, tidied the garden, replaced some native shrubs and inspected the new showers and toilets that had been installed 18 months ago. Lots of banter as we admired each other’s cooking skills!!! We are planning another visit in early 2023. The Club has enjoyed support from the ALF and Licola Board in the shower and earlier roof replacement.

The Club had its traditional stall at the recent Diamond Creek Town organised by the Rotary Club, with a BBQ, Christmas cake sales, raffle and membership information. We had a great turn out! The Fair ran from mid-morning to well into to the evening culminating with a fireworks display, an estimated 10,000 people attended the event, which returned after a three year absence. The early inclement weather not deter the Club, the BBQ was kept dry under the trailer pop up doors!

Diamond Valley Lions has had a very positive July and August, the activities account increased by $4,000 despite donations of $2,000. The Club will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in March 2023, hopefully our 50th Anniversary Project will be a sensory garden.
