December 2021 news
A lot has been going on at Diamond Valley Lions, we have seen the opening of the Diamond Creek Regional Play space, the Club sponsored two BBQ shelters. Diamond Valley Lions also attended the opening of the Lions V District Mobile Skin Check Van at Government House; the Club was a Silver Sponsor. Finally we saw the completion of the bathroom renovations for our sponsor House 12 at Licola.
The centerpiece of the Diamond Creek Regional Play space is a restored Melbourne W Class Tram sponsored by the Diamond Creek Rotary Club. The tram has a community café run by local community groups including the Lions Club. The play space is sponsored by the Nillumbik Shire Council and Victorian Government. The nature-themed play space caters for all ages and abilities, featuring both junior and senior play areas, flying foxes, nature play and cubby area. Diamond Valley Lions ran the BBQ on the opening day!
Several members of Diamond Valley Lions attended the opening of the Mobile Skin Check Van, including President Trevor Kennett, and Fiona Kates and Johanna Jinette, both of whom have completed the dermoscopy course including a visit to the Peter Mac. Fiona reported very keen interest from patients at the Peter Mac.
Members of Diamond Valley Lions have enjoyed several visits to Licola to work on our sponsor House 12, in addition to the recent bathroom renovation, which was put to good use over the recent Lions sponsored Christmas Camps, we also reroofed the house in 2019. To date we have also repainted over half on the interior of the House. The Club has another visit planned in May to complete painting the final bedroom. Licola has proved a popular project with Club members, at this early stage seven members have indicated their intentions for the May visit. Yes we do do some work, but we also have lots of enjoyment.
None of the above projects would have been possible without the support of the Australian Lions Foundation, BBQs and Licola, and the brilliant work done by our cake guru, Lion Doug Wilson and the Bunnings cake project. The Club is pleased to be able to make a sizable contribution to the ALF as a result of the recent Bunnings cake program.
